This is an exceptionally Irish outpost, from the colorful, Dublin-esque facade to the Guinness on tap to the live Irish music. Two fireplaces keep it cozy and there's rarely a cover charge. Rocks Lincoln Park - Lincoln Park

1301 W Schubert Ave Chicago, IL 60614

Tucked behind an old factory, Rocks Lincoln Park isn't the easiest bar to find, and perhaps it shouldn't be. Catering to its cozy nook of Lincoln Park, this is a bar that should be walked to, for either a post-work swig or an after-dinner pint. Arrive to an upwardly mobile crowd, dressed biz to biz-caz-fri. From every bar stool and table, you can watch one of six TVs always playing sports; the ESPN challenged will have to escape to the pretty outdoor patio, weather permitting. Imports and microbeers flourish, and finicky wine drinkers should find a suitable vintage. Belts of booze served in a heavy glass come with what owner George Manta called Rocks' signature schtick--one large, perfect cube of ice. Small Bar - Logan Square

2956 N Albany Ave Chicago, IL 60618

Surprise, surprise, Small Bar isn't very large. But the tiny bar that could features a monstrous beer selection (120 varieties) and a menu worth looking into. It's also a soccer bar, and a game from some part of the globe is always on the televisions. The English Premiere League is especially popular, and Saturday morning matches are routinely accompanied by Guinness and eggs (but not the Anglophile bric-a-brac). Modest decorations include original artwork and soccer scarves. Fire players occasionally sign autographs at Small Bar, and shuttle buses leave here for some home games. Bands play once or twice a month. Beer lovers might try the beer club, valid Sundays through Thursdays. Bartenders keep your card on file, scratching off each new brew you try. Drink 50 different beers and win a prize. Popular eats are the hand-dipped cheese curds and the six kinds of salads . Brunch here weekends for about $7 a plate. But unlike the rough-around-the-edges former hangs at this address, you might actually still want to hang out here when the weather cools. A gut-rehab has transformed the entire space with buttery leather bar stools and cedar planks lining the walls nearly everywhere you look.
