The dim lounge is a carefully contrived celebration of the 1950's: polished black Formica-top bar with its rows of stainless steel cocktail shakers and facing Naugahyde banquettes. Owners Mike Bisbee and Mike Kaulentis envision the low-key lounge as a place for their friends to hang when they want to keep the their night out going without the strobe lights and banging club music. Just how similar is this spot to its nearby siblings? Stay boasts a 4 a.m. license, just like RiNo, but unlike Manor, bottle service isn't required to settle into the chocolate-hued leather couches lining the back of the space. Besides a lineup of bottled beer, bartenders will work their magic with fruity cocktails inspired by mixers from Belgian juice company Looza.

June update: The folks behind Whiskey Bar & Grill have partnered up with chef Richard Sandoval (the man behind Pampano and Maya in NYC, Maya in San Francisco and Isla in Las Vegas) to launch a new concept in the Whiskey address. Both the bar and restaurant got a facelift in June; the decor now leans towards Latin (they still have the primo Rush Street sidewalk cafe). The restaurant, which is now dubbed Mexx Kitchen at The Whiskey, offers choices like wood-oven prepped enchiladas, ceviche and Mexico City-style tacos, plus entrees like beef tenderloin skewers with chorizo, bacon, red peppers, onions, cactus leaf and mushrooms with a tomatillo-chile morita sauce.




Two-Nine - Naperville

Located in Naperville, above the Mexican restaurant Potter's Place, Two-Nine is a city-joint, constructed in Naperville. The crowds are diverse in age and so is the menu. Offering over 30 specialty cocktails, you will be sure to find something to your liking.




Union Park - West Town/ West Loop

With its bright-lights marquee and affordable menu, Union Park attracts a crowd of young professionals looking for a much-needed place to kick back amidst the West Loop scene (which used to be called Union Park). Billing itself as an upscale sports lounge, this bar-restaurant comes from the group behind Grand Central, Bar Celona and SoPo. The decor's a throwback to old-school Chicago with its classic white-tiled columns, marble bar and Tiffany-esque light fixtures, but the 15 plasma screen TVs bring you back to the present. The martini list offers classic choices and the Union Blue (Skyy citrus, blue curacau and citrus juices) for a mere $6, and bottled and draft beers run $3-$4. You can also grab some sangria by the glass or pitcher. Looking for a late-night nosh? A full menu's available 'til midnight, but you can order lighter fare 'til close. Choose from a selection of paninis or bar food with a flair, such as zucchini corn quesadillas, spinach portabella artichoke dip or park ribs.
